TripDescription: The purpose of this trip was to discuss the possibility of a future OVR cleanup of the pit with the owner and to get a video of the pit and surrounding area for presentation at the upcoming OVR meeting.
After getting permission from the owners wife we headed down to the entrance and filmed the access from the road as well as the area surrounding the pit. It was noted that while there is very little trash on the surface, replacing or removing the old fence would make the sink a lot safer to negotiate. At the bottom we were greeted to the familiar trash pile. I'm happy to report, we saw no evidence of any recent additions to the heap-o-garbage. We proceded to film the pit floor (not that the floor is actually visible) and on into the horizontal passage. If the cleanup becomes a reality, this side lead will serve as an excelent safe zone during haul ups. Finishing our video documention we headed out to talk with the owner, Mr Anthony Beavers.
Mr. Beavers has always welcomed responsible cavers and was excited at the prospect of having the cave restored to its natural state. Although Carcass Crypt is not the deepest or longest in the state, I still enjoy each visit.
